The article was about new technologies in automated mining and I was given a double page spread to work with. Apparently mining companies are tight lipped about their systems so the client asked if I could illustrate something quite advanced or futuristic while still recognisable as mining operations... so naturally... ROBOTS!
Here are the initial concepts, line work, colour rough and the final print image. I was pretty happy with it in the end. Got to check out some giant machines that put holes in the ground too.
